Discovery is seeking enthusiastic, energetic, and dynamic outdoor educators and teachers interested in working seasonally or full time with struggling teens and young adults.

Responsibilities include teaching life skills and outdoor education on 18 to 30 day wilderness canoe expeditions throughout Florida, South Carolina and Alabama.

Education Coordinator, 03/23/2008

Salary: $23,000-$27,000

Discovery is actively seeking a year-round Education Coordinator for the Key Largo FINS Outward Bound program located in Key Largo, Florida. The Key Largo Outward Bound program operates 20 day wilderness programs and 20 to 90 day home and school transition components for at-risk male and female youth ages 13 to 17.

The Education Coordinator position is responsible for developing, modifying and implementing age and grade appropriate academic curriculum. Additional responsibilities include participating in treatment team, administering academic assessments; and oversight of individual academic plans/individual education plans and transition planning.

Qualifications: Must have current FDOE teacher certification, or ability to be certifiable in the State of Florida, prior experience working with or teach at-risk youth, experience with alternative or experiential based educational approaches.

Course Director, 02/20/2008

Salary: $24,800-$28,000 DOE

Discovery is actively seeking a Course Director for the STEP-Yulee program located north of Jacksonville, Florida.

The Course Director position is responsible for coordinating and supervising wilderness expeditions up to 30 days in length for adjudicated male and female youth ages 14 to 18.

Additional responsibilities include overseeing 2-4 field staff per expedition, conducting field visits, ensuring staff and student safety, staff development, and occasional instructing of wilderness expeditions.

Qualifications include experience leading extended expeditions with at-risk or adjudicated youth. Experience in training and/or staff development.
